Do you have 3 days to return a vehicle?

One of the most common misconceptions about car buying is the belief that a consumer can return the vehicle within 3 days of taking delivery.

Let me set the record straight - unless you fall into one of the exceptions below - YOU CANNOT RETURN A MOTOR VEHICLE AFTER TAKING DELIVERY.

The only exceptions are:

1. You were arranging financing through the dealership and the dealer was unable to get you financing at the original agreed upon terms.

2. The dealership agrees to take back the vehicle.

3. The dealership has a written policy offering you the right to return the vehicle within a set number of days and miles.

4. You purchase an "option" to return the vehicle. Or

5. You purchased the vehicle at an "offsite sale." Which typically means a tent sale or other sale away from the dealer's primary place of business. In that case - there are Home Solicitation statutes in most states which give a consumer 72 hours to cancel the transaction.
