Flexible Fuel Vehicle Conversions

May 10, 2008 // No Comment // Categories: Car Buying.

Converting a conventional gasoline vehicle to run on E85 is technically possible, and many companies are advertising the availability of conversions. However, only one company, Flex Fuel U.S., has obtained a certificate of conformity from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for three vehicle models that have been converted to allow operation on E85. The certification process involves EPA testing on the vehicles prior to issuing the certificate, and certification applies only to the listed vehicles, not the conversion system by itself. The vehicles are the 2006 Ford Crown Victoria Police, the 2006 Ford Crown Victoria Taxi, and the 2006 Lincoln Town Car Airport Livery vehicles with the 4.6-liter engine.

No other E85 conversions are currently certified by EPA. Converting vehicles to run on E85 may affect their warranties.
