Not all 30 MPG Vehicles are Equal- Does your vehicle require premium gas?
So you are doing your vehicle comparisons before you go car shopping, and one of your more important considerations is fuel economy. After all with fuel costs, in the past exceeding $4.00 per gallon of Regular Grade gasoline, the cost of a fill up is high on people's minds. But one question you should ask before you simply taking the numbers at face value is whether or not the vehicle requires Premium Grade gasoline.
The average cost of Premium Grade tends to run $.25 to $.50 more than Regular which is a 6-10% price difference. What is the effect? If you had a vehicle that averaged 30 MPG but required Premium Grade gasoline, it is equivalent to a vehicle that gets 27 MPG but only requires Regular Grade gasoline.
Put another way, the cost of operating that vehicle is then 6-10% more. So a fill-up that used to cost $80 now costs $90. Every week. For as long as you own the vehicle. And here is the kicker - the prices are only predicted to rise.
