Toyota Limits Production in Japan

Toyota has decided to proceed with vehicle production at approximately 50 percent of normal between May 10 and June 3. The automaker said it will reassess its production schedule based on its suppliers’ situation and that of related companies.

This decision follows the automaker’s previously announced decision to produce vehicles at approximately 50 percent of normal at all its Japanese vehicle production facilities from April 18 to April 27 and for all production facilities to enter their annual spring holiday through May 9.

Toyota, like the other manufacturers affected by the Tsunami in Japan have made tremendous strides to recover from this devastating loss.  During this recovery period, we can expect production to be below normal levels.  The impact to the consumer will be lower inventories on dealer lots - thus fewer cars to choose from, fewer discounts from dealers, and fewer incentives from manufacturers.  My advice, if you don't need a new car now, wait 2-3 months for the end of the model year and beginning of the 2012's.  Otherwise, move quicker than normal.  If you find the right vehicle, do your homework, and pull the trigger; otherwise you might be forced to buy a different vehicle with other options.
