2012 Hyundai Genesis Gets Exciting Changes
The Hyundai Genesis sedan receives a number of changes for the 2012 model year, and this luxury, full-size car should generate new excitement after its introduction a few years ago.
While you might initially be struck by the bolder new body style of the Genesis, an equally notable change is found in the two new engines that are offered.
The new body has a grille that is more prominent, contributing to a more aggressive front end that features LED headlights.
There are new taillights as well, and the Genesis now has power-folding side mirrors.
But it’s in the engines where you’ll really notice a difference with the Genesis.
There is now a 3.8-liter V-6 that makes 333 horsepower, an upgrade of 43 ponies over the previous engine.
The 4.6-liter V-8 is a holdover, and still makes 385 horsepower.
But another new choice is the 5.0-liter V-8 that makes 429 horsepower and is found on the 5.0 R-Spec model, which the tester was.
Each engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Fuel economy isn’t too bad, given the size and power of these engines.
The V-6 gets 19 mpg city, 29 highway, while the 4.6-liter gets 17 and 26 and the big guy is rated at 16 and 25.
The advanced technology and high-level fit and finish make for a luxurious interior that is comfortable and appealing.
Hyundai offers satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB audio port, leather upholstery and heated, power front seats as standard equipment on the Genesis.
For options, you can choose from touchscreen navigation system, heated rear seats, backup camera and intelligent cruise control.
Hyundai has included a full slate of safety features on the Genesis, including antilock brakes, electronic stability control and eight airbags.
Safety options include front and rear parking assist and a lane departure warning system.
Pricing on the Genesis starts at around $35,000 and ranges to almost $47,000, with the R-Spec test model carrying a sticker price of $46,535.
Hyundai has had a remarkable run of success in recent years, thanks to vehicles that are very reasonably priced and that are much better equipped than many of their competitors.
The 2012 Genesis continues that run, with its luxury styling pairing beautifully with its performance qualities.
